Projects 2023 - 2024
On 14th November, 2022 during water and gender day at COP27, it as announced that Water for Women would be extended to strengthen inclusive climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene for Asian and Pacific communities.
From 2023 to 2024 the Australian government will invest a further $36 million to support climate-resilient, inclusive and sustainable WASH services and systems, and safeguard water security across 16 Asia Pacific countries.
Water for Women is partnering with eight civil society organisations to continue implementing 15 WASH projects with the aim of improving the delivery of inclusive climate-resilient WASH, while seven research projects will address knowledge and practice gaps for inclusive and climate-resilient WASH.

Pacific
Vanuatu: Inclusive Climate Resilient WASH in Vanuatu |
Partnering with World Vision and partners, this project aims to improve climate resilient WASH for at-risk community members by promoting systems strengthening, new learning and use of evidence at national and subnational level, with community-wide WASH improvements that adapt for climate change and extreme weather events, and consider the different needs of women and marginalised people within communities.

Solomon Islands: Climate Adaptive and Inclusive WASH in Solomon Islands |
Partnering with Plan International and Live & Learn Environmental Education in Solomon Islands who will work closely with national, provincial and local governments to strengthen the coordination between climate, WASH, health, education and administrative divisions to improve technical approaches to identifying and assessing climate vulnerabilities and risks as well as evidence based approaches to improving climate resilient WASH practices and management for schools, health care facilities and communities.

Papua New Guinea: Strongim WASH Kominiti Projek |
Partnering with WaterAid and partners this project (Strengthening WASH for Community Project) will accelerate momentum with core government and local partners to continue improving and refining approaches to public sector coordination, planning, monitoring, financing and inclusive WASH service delivery with added focus on climate resilience and the threats climate change represents to strong WASH systems, services and livelihoods.

Papua New Guinea: WASH Voices for Empowerment Phase 2 |
Partnering with World Vision and partners to support improved health, gender equality and wellbeing in South and Middle Fly through inclusive climate resilient WASH. The project is building on the productive relationships formed with Middle Fly District Government and provide support to district government to rollout inclusive, climate resilient WASH policy and service delivery and to integrate climate resilience into WASH planning and implementation.

Papua New Guinea: Inclusive Climate-Resilient WASH in the Islands Region of PNG |
Partnering with Plan International and Live and Learn Environmental Education who are partnering with with New Ireland Province and Autonomous Region of Bougainville government stakeholders and community actors, this project aims to enable climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene, improved health, strengthened gender equality and greater well-being for 8,380 people in New Ireland Province and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea

South East Asia
Cambodia: Climate Resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Scale-Up Program |
Partnering with iDE and partners to improve the health, gender equality and well-being of Cambodian communities through inclusive, sustainable and climate resilient WASH. This project will support mainstreaming of climate resilience into sanitation marketing and the Cambodian Government's Open Defecation Free Activities in Rural Cambodia.

Indonesia: Climate Resilient and Inclusive WASH |
Partnering with Yayasan Plan International Indonesia and partners to support governments and community members in dealing with climate change-related issues and challenges. CERIA aims to establish climate resilient and GEDSI WASH systems and services in the project locations to improve climate resilience, health, gender equality and wellbeing of Indonesian communities.

Lao PDR: Towards Inclusive Climate Resilient Rural WASH Services in Lao PDR |
Partnering with SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and partners to meet the challenges of climate change and assist governments deliver on basic human rights for their people through meaningful and scalable interventions for climate resilient adaption processes, reaching an estimated 100,000 people.

Timor-Leste: Strengthening Connections for Equality, Resilience, Adaptation and Sustainability of WASH |
Partnering with WaterAid and partners to deliver Haforsa Ligasaun ba Igualidade, Resiliensia, Adaptasaun no Sustentabilidade ba BESI (HALIRAS BESI) which will build on collaborative, inclusive and climate-resilient approaches to address the challenges of climate change and improve the operation and maintenance of rural WASH services in Manufahi and Liquiçá. The project will also support actors from other municipalities to understand, adapt, and trial these approaches further.

South Asia
Nepal: Towards Inclusive Climate Resilience in WASH in Nepal |
Partnering with SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and partners to support adaptation and strengthen resilience within current area-wide rural water supply services with four Rural Municipalities in two districts in Nepal. Its goal is to contribute improved health, gender equality and wellbeing of rural municipalities in Nepal through inclusive climate-resilient WASH services and broader water security by 2024.

Bhutan: Towards Climate Resilient Inclusive WASH Services in Rural Bhutan |
Partnering with SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and partners to establish links between improved WASH services and water security, and contribute to accelerating progress in rural water, sanitation and hygiene through strengthening adaptive capacities of stakeholders and communities to achieve quality at scale with equity (women and people with disabilities) reaching an estimated 88,000 people.

Pakistan: Leveraging Inclusive and Climate Sensitive WASH for Empowerment – LIFE II |
Partnering with International Rescue Committee and partners to improve coordination and collaboration between communities, duty bearers and governments for inclusive and climate resilient WASH services, reaching an estimated 126,000 people.

Projects 2018 - 2022
From 2018 through to December 2022, Water for Women partnered with 10 Civil Society Organisations (CSO's) to deliver 20 WASH Projects in 15 countries in Asia and the Pacific. Over the course of this phase of the Fund, Water for Women supported over 3 million people.

Cambodia water, sanitation, and hygiene scale-up program 2.0 (WASH-SUP2) Partnering with International Development Enterprises (iDE) to deliver WASH-SUP2 – Cambodia Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Scale Up Program 2.0 installing 35,000 toilets, upgrading 15,000 dual pits and reaching an estimated 944,840 people with improved WASH services in six provinces of Cambodia. |
10. Water for Women: Nine Provinces in Cambodia |
Women-Led Output Based Aid (WOBA) in Cambodia Partnering with Thrive Networks to deliver Women Led Output Based Aid (WOBA) to 30,000 households including 15,000 households of the poorest and most vulnerable in 23 districts across nine provinces of Cambodia, reaching an estimated 95,300 people. |

Research Projects
Research is an important element of Water for Women. The Water for Women Fund aims to raise the bar in terms of gender and socially inclusive research, analysis, design and program delivery in WASH, and in doing so to lead practice globally.
