Sexual and Gender Minorities and COVID-19: Guidance for WASH delivery

This guidance note, Sexual and Gender Minorities and COVID-19: Guidance for WASH delivery, was developed by Water for Women and Edge Effect to provide some key principles, considerations and actions which Water for Women Fund partners, and the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector more broadly, can apply to strengthen sexual and gender minority inclusion in their COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 programming responses and adaptations.

This includes:

  • How SGM inclusive is your program?
  • Root causes of discrimination, violence and exclusion faced by SGM communities
  • Key considerations for SGM inclusion
  • Additional actions for specific WASH and COVID-19 interventions

This Guidance Note was authored by Emily Dwyer of Edge Effect, Sexual and Gender Minority Inclusion Adviser to the Water for Women Fund. Thanks to CSO partners, International Rescue Committee and Centre for Advocacy and Research as well as to Joanna Mott, Phoebe Mack and Matthew Bond for their contributions to this document.
